Of all the ingredients you have tucked away in your kitchen cabinets, there's one you should be using more often: coconut oil. This inexpensive oil has numerous applications in the kitchen, where you can use it for cooking, cleaning and beyond.
Stain prevention. Your plastic ware may be clean, but those old marinara stains can make it look gross and dirty. A quick rub with coconut oil after cleaning will help keep stains from setting into plastic.
Cutting board conditioner. Skip the expensive oils marketed for cutting boards and buff them with coconut oil instead. As a bonus, it's also antibacterial - an important property when it comes to food.
Seasoner for cast iron pans. Rub some into the bottom and sides of your cast iron pan and then put it in a 300 degree oven for 15 minutes. Removes it from the oven and wipe away any excess oil and viola - instant pan protection!
Butter substitute. This oil can be used as a healthy substitute for everything that butter is used for, from greasing pans to popcorn toppings to baking.
Egg preserver. Rubbing a little coconut oil on your eggs will help extend their shelf life for up to three weeks.
